Digital Cameras Do Not Need Watering
65504 Science and Technology Mar 3, 2008 jcorkern10 Digital Cameras Do Not Need Watering There are multitudes of highly technologically challenging gadgets that we want today and are positive that we can not survive without. Our digital cameras, laptops, cell phones, and blackberries are cherished tools that we do not like to go anywhere unless we bring many of them with us. Truthfully, the beauty of all these tools is that you can take them with you wherever you go. With all the transporting around that they do, the possibility of them being stolen, lost, or damaged is a threat. The majority of warranties on these high tech items do not cover some of these events. We could be really on our own as far as recovery or restoration. Some of these things might be salvaged if they are damaged by water. With a digital video camera or digital photo camera, saturating water damage might mean their certain death. There is a slim chance they may be fixed, but not much. Even the repair services that will try to repair digital cameras of all kinds that have been soaked with water will likely charge you a non refundable fee up front that might be fifty dollars or more and will not guarantee bringing it back to normal. With odds like that, you could be spending more money on it and still not have the digital camera restored the way it was. The smartest thing to do is not get it wet in the first place. Precautions are not that complicated if you just use them from the beginning. First of all, you should not permit kids or pets near them. Almost anything kids or animals get close to can inadvertently get wet, by one means or another. Slobber is usually not fatal, except perhaps to digital cameras. Provided you are brave enough to bring your camera close to pools, bath tubs, hot tubs, spas, lakes, or any other body of water, for Pete's sake put it in a waterproof case. A sealed plastic bag can help, but not be enough. Tuck it in a sealed plastic bag or into a water proof container. Extra protection is defiantly not ridiculous, especially if you spent over $500.00 dollars for it. Even if you are not close to water, your camera is likely to be unusable if the viewing panel is broken, although this might be fixed. An airtight plastic container will help prevent it from being crushed as easily and protect it from liquids. Water damage aside, digital things are very sensitive and the more precaution taken with them, the better. We never miss our new high tech devices so very much as when they die on us.
