Things You Must Do For A Successful Interview
64140 Business > Careers Feb 25, 2008 tjacowski Things You Must Do For A Successful Interview If you are relatively unsuccessful at job interviews, then instead of sitting and getting frustrated you should jot down some areas where you seem to be going wrong. After all, you have really worked hard to get there after sending resumes and going through all the right channels - and you want to be successful at some point. The right resume can get you an interview, and if you tackle the interview in the right way, it should get you the job too. So let's analyze how you can make the most of your job interview opportunities: -Resume- You should know the content of your resume like the back of your hand - and you should review the resume from the employer's point of view. -TODAY Acronym- Use TODAY to develop and showcase your skills - it stands for Teamwork, Overcoming obstacles, Duties and Achievements, Profile of your past with your achievements, Your strengths and your weaknesses. -Study the company- Always research the company, because the better you know them, the more comfortable you will feel when walking through the door for the interview. Knowledge of the company's products, services and culture show the interviewer that you are proactive and have an eye for detail. -Rehearsal- Think of any prospective questions that you could be asked. Then think about 3-4 questions that you intend to ask the interviewer. Rehearse your interview and prepare yourself with your past job profiles, showcasing your responsibilities and accomplishments. This is not the time for modesty - so don't be afraid to talk about yourself and your strengths. If you feel particularly nervous, try to role play with a friend or family member. -Dress to succeed- If you really want to succeed, then dress well. It is always best to wear a business suit for any interview. If you don't have one, you should get one - it doesn't have to be expensive, but it should be in conservative colors like blue, brown, black or gray. Companies hire people who create a strong first impression, so look presentable. -Think positive- Think positive to be positive. In the days leading to the interview, picture yourself sitting opposite the interviewer and then picture yourself relaxed in the actual position. Play this over and over again in your mind until it becomes familiar and part of your self-image. This is called positive visualization and it really works - so go ahead and try it. Every interview will not be successful, but don't take it personally. It is not always about you or your skills. However, you can increase your chances by following these simple tips to turn an interview into a successful job offer. Tony Jacowski is a quality analyst for The MBA Journal.
