A Wedding Exhibition As An Incentive
63819 Society > Marriage Feb 25, 2008 sparta A Wedding Exhibition As An Incentive My partner and I are planning on getting married in eighteen months and I have developed an obsession with all things wedding. I've checked out very wedding dress shop, every colour of bridesmaid outfit, every magazine, every type of invitation design, every conceivable seating plan and every possible venue. And now, I see, my dreams have been realised in the wedding exhibition advertised at the local town hall and set to be on this coming weekend. I'm in wedding heaven - surely I'll be able to source everything I need, all under one roof. Unfortunately, my partner has suddenly been informed he has overtime to do next weekend so he can't come with me. That's a bit strange because he never works weekends but he assures me he would be coming to the exhibition if he could. That means I'll be dragging my mother along but I'm certain she won't mind - she's as wedding crazy as me and the only person I trust to help me get the detail right. We start out early on the day of the exhibition and are first queuing at the doors. On entering the exhibition, I am overwhelmed. Swathes of ivory silk are draped all around the hall, bouquets containing every possible type of flower, from your typical roses to the more exotic, are trimmed to perfection and precariously balanced in ornate displays. On closer inspection, it seems some traders appear to have thrown together their wares and not put a great deal of thought into the presentation. That's rather disappointing because I don't think I will get a good service from people who can't represent their product to the optimum. Paste tables with tiaras and flowers stacked on top does not make for a convincing display. However, the more impressive displays I'm told, are from business's who chose a company that dealt with exhibition design and build. All their products are displayed for maximum effect and for the ease of the customer to see what is on offer. Not only do these exhibition design and build companies supply display methods but it is clear some have been made tailor made for the event, built to exact specifications to utilise all the space available. This creates a much more impressive job that draws me and hundreds of other shoppers in. The only thing I am unable to find at this exhibition is a definitive list of alternative wedding venues and this sets me thinking. Currently an out of work writer, I've been looking for a new project and I begin my research. Within a year, I have my book on alternative wedding venues throughout the UK finished. As a wedding present, my husband made sure my book was put into print and the publishers have received it well. However, funds are limited and I decided to do a lot of the book promotion myself. I book up a place at all the wedding exhibitions I can find listed and from my own experience, I know how important it's going to be to display my book for the best advantage and to make sure nobody passes it by. I want to feel like I'm doing my part in contributing towards the cost of running our new home so it is important to me to get this little project of mine out into the public domain. I contact the exhibition design and build people to organise a stand for me. I know exactly what I'm looking for and they take my idea, add a few of their professional suggestions and present me with a 3D image of what my stand will look like and how I can lay out my book to maximise its potential. A little concerned about my abilities to erect this veritable masterpiece of display equipment, the company assures me that this is all part and parcel of their service. On my first day at the show, the exhibition design and build people arrive early with my stand and build it on site. I am massively impressed with this service and my book is a sell out by lunchtime! Expert writer Catherine Harvey looks at the use of companies that provide exhibition design and build services.
