The First Desktop Computer, Part One
62833 Computers > Hardware Jan 26, 2008 pdelray The First Desktop Computer, Part One A large number of Americans enjoy their TV time, but those of us who live too far outside the city limits usually either have to have satellite service or must choose to have no TV at all, except for perhaps using an old fashioned antenna that is connected to the house. Many of us remember satellite television when it first debuted years ago and recall the huge clunky dishes that had to be planted in the backyard to gain service. It had to be adjusted and re-adjusted to make sure it was correctly aligned and was quite the eyesore, especially if you like your yard to look a certain way. Satellite service has come quite a long way from the huge dishes, snowy receptions, and high prices and has recently become much more affordable and of a much higher quality and many services offer a lot more customization options than in times past. The satellite dish is typically less than one tenth of the size of the old large dishes and instead of only being able to watch one channel throughout the entire house, you can now watch a different channel in almost as many rooms as you could need. Have four bedrooms and a den and want to be able to watch different channels in each one? Satellite services could not offer that option when they first debuted on the scene as an alternative to cable, but they certainly do now. And many services offer hundreds of channels to choose from and some have added a new service that allows you to select programs from a library to watch any time you want to. Speaking of programming, most of us know what pay per view is and with the satellite services of today, you can usually watch movies via pay per view when they are released to theaters, so if you want to stay home instead of going out, stay in, save money, and view your movie of choice in the comfort of your own home. Satellite services also offer a number of shopping channels, so you can shop from the convenience of your recliner if you need to. From jewelry to clothing to electronics and more, whatever satellite service you choose will most likely offer a shopping channel to accommodate your needs. So many different things are offered via your satellite service that for movies, entertainment, and even shopping, you may not need to leave the house.
