The next step, actually creating the site, might just be the easiest step in the process. There are several good software programs available to assist with the publishing process. Some popular ones are Dreamweaver and Adobe Go Live. These applications essentially walk you through the entire process and eliminate the need for you to learn complex coding rules. If you choose to use one of these programs, it's a good idea to also purchase or borrow a book to provide you with more information about the use of the program. As an alternative, you can hire someone to create the site for you. Finally, you need to get your site listed on search engines, like Google, Yahoo, MSN, and others. This step involves applying to the sites to have them list your site in their search engine. Of course, simply applying to be listed doesn't guarantee good search engine rankings. There are a number of criteria involved in determining where your site falls in a search, and different search engines have different rules. In general, make sure your site contains useful, unique content and uses key words in a sensible manner. Those are the general steps involved in starting your own web site. While there are a few additional fine points in the process, what they are and how you need to handle them will depend largely on the purpose of your site. Though the process is much easier than it once was, if you're feeling confused and uncertain of where to start, it may be wise to hire a consultant to assist you, purchase a good software program, or enlist the assistance of a web-savvy friend or relative.
