How To Turn Throw Rugs Into Design Opportunities
58151 Home & Family Dec 3, 2007 jcorkern10 How To Turn Throw Rugs Into Design Opportunities The term throw rug implies exactly what they are used for. You can throw them down anywhere you like. The many colors, fabrics, piles, textures and sizes throw rugs can come in are almost uncountable. Throw rugs of one kind or another have been being made and used for hundreds and even thousands of years. The different ways they are used are many. They are as much loved for their decorative purposes almost as much as their usefulness. Throw rugs have been used in many different cultures throughout history. They were used in traveling caravans of Bedouins and Gypsies alike. Native Americans used them in their tee pees and lodges. In the carriage days they were used like blankets for cold weather rides. They were most often made on a weave loom or by hand. Historically they were made from wool or other types of animal hair or plant fibers. Today many are made from man made materials like nylon or olefin. Throw rugs of some kind can be found in almost every home and many countries. They still have a variety of uses that almost make them a home necessity. Decorative elements are one of the most popular uses. When a pretty or stylish throw rug is placed strategically in front of a piece of furniture, like an occasional hall table or chair, it will lend a more decorated look and feel. When some people find a really beautiful throw rug, perhaps an old hand made one, will still hang it on a wall like was done many years ago. Some of the useful purposes that throw rugs fulfill can be found all over the house. One of their biggest duties is at the front and back doors of our homes. They can often be found on the inside or outside of a door. Many times a throw rug is one of the first things a visitor will notice as they stand on one waiting for the door to be opened. This is why a nice doormat or throw rug is important here, but also to help keep tracked in dirt and debris to a minimum. Using throw rugs in bathrooms and kitchens is very good to catch splashes of water from wetting the immediate area around sinks, showers, and bathtubs. They also provide that little extra decorative touch to these rooms as well. Many times throw rugs can be thrown right into the washing machine and dryer, which is an easy way to keep them fresh and clean.
