When it comes to holidays, the word luxury conjures up grandness. Luxury feels indulgent and something that we all crave although it does mean different things to different people but something that we can all taste at least once in our lives.
Many of us who are not accustomed to luxury, the word can have a very broad meaning. Images associated with holidays can include four poster beds, feather pillows, breakfast in bed every morning, someone running a soapy bath for you or checking that your shower temperature is right before you step in, having a massage every day, weekly manicures and pedicures. Outside travel, luxury might include someone to do your ironing or shopping for your, the list goes on.
Then there is simple luxury. The luxury of a candlelit bubble bath after a hard day at work, the luxury of a holiday alone with your partner whilst your parents baby sit the kids, breakfast in bed. The majority of us, not born into luxury will more than likely have it better than those born into it, although many won't see it that way. The reason why is that we can value the smaller gestures as luxuries as we have not got to the stage where we need more and more to make us feel special or pampered. We are able to be more fulfilled and content.
Whilst we don't need more, we would all like more luxury in our lives as our lives are surrounded by advertising pandering to that desire. You need this, this will make you more attractive, eat this, look at that, wear this and be like that. People get sucked in by this and believe or hope in it so they buy the products or services and their lives are, for the most part, not miraculously changed.
