Making Money on eBay
As with any home based business opportunity, your first step will be to set your goals. Ask yourself the following questions: *Why should I sell on eBay? *What can I sell? *Will enough people buy my product or item? Give the first question a lot of thought. Really. Why do you want to sell on eBay? Maybe you just need to supplement your income. Or maybe you currently have a brick and mortar store and would like to simply increase your selling potential by selling your items on eBay. Reasons are a dime a dozen. What are yours? The second question: What can I sell? I'm sure you've heard the old adage "One person's junk is another person's treasure." Some people don't like dusty old antiques. Other people will pay very nicely for your dusty old antiques. Just be sure to wipe the dust off first. The third question is a little more detailed. Will enough people buy my product to make it worth while? There are several ways to find out. One way is to use eBay's search feature. Type the name of the item you'd like to sell in the search box and hit "enter". How many different sources of your item appeared in the search results? How much were they selling for? Now click the "Completed Listings" box in the left navigation panel and click the "Show Items" button. How many of that particular item actually sold? Did it sell for an amount you are comfortable selling it for? Another option to selling on eBay is to use the services of a drop shipper. Drop shippers are companies you order from after someone buys something from you on eBay. The drop shipper is in charge of handling and shipping the item. All you do is list it on eBay and sell it for them, keeping a percentage of the profit for yourself. After you've chosen the item or items you're planning to sell, create your eBay account. It's very simple and straight-forward. Familiarize yourself with the various methods of selling. Learn about the Buy It Now and Reserve options. Check shipping costs of other items similar to yours. Some shipping costs may seem quite expensive. You can determine shipping by various methods. One of the most common mistakes when using eBay is miscalculation of shipping costs. Here are a few relatively reliable methods to try: *Take your item to your local post office to have it weighed (most reliable method). *Buy a postal scale and weigh your item yourself (also very reliable). *Weigh your item on your bathroom scale and hope it's right (not as reliable). I've even read about people using this option: *Weigh yourself, then weigh yourself holding the item. The difference in weight is the weight of the item. Then use the United States Postal Service website to determine the approximate shipping amount of your item (not as reliable). Once you've learned the basics of selling on eBay, the selling and earning possibilities are virtually endless!
