The scar, also, is smaller than in a full abdominoplasty. Once the doctor has made the incision, he or she will bring your skin downwards to eliminate the bulgy sagginess around your lower abdomen. They will then trim away the excess skin and put in the stitches. There is typically no tightening of the abdominal muscles nor is there much, if any, fat removal. Because of the location of the incision and the nature of a mini tummy tuck, loose skin above the navel is not repaired. If you are not sure which procedure you need, it is best to consult a plastic surgeon. The recovery process is suited to surgeries of this kind. Naturally, your activities will be quite limited; you do not want to risk popping your stitches. You can also expect bruising and swelling. Inevitably, the necessary incision will leave a scar. Over time, the mark will fade. Recovering successfully requires you to follow the directions your surgeon gives you. The warnings and suggestions are intended to help your healing process. Should you fail to follow those directions, you run a greater risk of suffering complications and damage to the still delicate surgical site. Within ten days, you will have your stitches removed and the bruising and swelling will have peaked. Several weeks in, you will be able to slowly return to your usual activity levels. Meanwhile, you should continue to see the plastic surgeon to monitor your progress. Finally, the results of your mini tummy tuck will be clear after several months of healing. Any numbness or tightness will no longer bother you and your incision will begin to lose its irritated red appearance. Before you decide if the mini abdominoplasty procedure is right for you, you should consult a licensed plastic surgeon. After an abdominal exam, they will be able to advise you on which type of procedure would accomplish your cosmetic goals.
