When trying to satisfy a hamster you need to make sure their water supply is well maintained. You can purchase water bottles and the sipping tube at any pet store. These products fit on the side of their colorful cages or aquarium. The cages are hard to clean . It is best to purchase an aquarium and fix it up like a home for them. Avoid using the little shavings of cedar bark. This can cause the hamster to have breathing problems. An old newspaper is fine to line the bottom of the aquarium with. They do need some shredded paper to build their nest or to cover with. Hamsters are bad about sitting in the dish where their food belongs. Purchase a heavy duty dish for their food. Their diet consists of grain and seed . The hamster food mixture has all the necessary ingredients a hamster needs. If you have lettuce or cabbage , hamster love a pinch or two with their daily diet of hamster food. For exercise , hamsters love the exercise wheels to run in. If you have any empty paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls your hamster would love to burrow themselves in them. Placing little branches inside the aquarium gives the hamster something to climb on. Hamsters love to sleep during the day , so it may be best to feed them in the afternoon. Cleaning the water bottle and sipping tube needs to be cleaned daily. Bacteria can form if not cleaned. Cleaning paper needs to be put down several times a week. Make sure to disinfect the aquarium . Hamster do their bathroom business in their little home. If you need to remove the hamster for a period of time to clean it's home, simply hold a little box close to the hamster and it should travel into the box. Be careful if you have to lift the hamster for any reason. They are prone to wiggling right out of your hands. There are many items to purchase and keep stock of when raising a hamster. They can be very entertaining to watch but quite a handful to care for. Keep your old newspapers for the cage lining. If you shred unwanted papers you can recycle them into their home for nest making or for burrowing. Don't leave your hamster in direct sunlight in the aquarium. This will kill your pet. Enjoy watching the hamster and make sure you have a mesh screen closing the aquarium opening. These little critters can travel very fast and get into the smallest holes.
