That simply cannot be avoided. To that end, turn down advice as politely and as discreetly as possible. The hurt will heal much more quickly if no one feels publicly embarrassed. While there will probably be one or two that will almost insists on a public showdown, keep as calm as you can, but stick to your guns. Your wedding day should be memorable because it is the way you and your new spouse want it to be, not because it meets the expectations of anyone else. That includes your choice of wedding gown.
