Your Essential Baby Layette Checklist
24483 Home & Family > Toddlers Jun 16, 2007 Your Essential Baby Layette Checklist Bringing a newborn baby home from hospital takes lots of preparation and careful planning. It can be daunting even for second and third time moms. So don't fret! Remembering all the necessities you need for a newborn baby can be overwhelming so plan in advance. Most new moms want to spend their first days with their new baby at home relaxing in the babies' new surroundings not worrying about the little things they forgot to get. 'Nesting' before the baby arrives creates the feeling of security and achievement for new moms to be and eases some of those worries. Newborns grow so quickly some clothes may never even be worn before your baby outgrows them so remember this when preparing your layette. Buy neutral colored items of clothing if you do not know the sex of your baby prior to birth. Pre-buying in the special sales that some shops offer, can result in some great bargains and can even be enjoyable and exciting for a mom to be. Most newborns outgrow 0-3 month clothing in a few weeks so avoid buying too many items in this size range. Babies can be messy little devils so stock up on vest bibs and comfy stretch sleep suits. You will probably spend the first few weeks mostly taking time to enjoy the company of your baby at home, so these items will make life a lot easier, when changing your baby. A must have also for your layette are drawstring nighties. Easy accessible, they will be such a timesaver. If this is your second or third child re-use your previous child's baby clothes if you have held onto them. Wash them with mild washing powder and softener beforehand. Giving new baby clothes a quick wash is a good idea also as it removes the chemicals that might irritate newborn skin. Purchase burping cloths, which can also double up as feeding cloths, when babies are in the early stages of their development as bibs can be slightly awkward to use. Scratch mits are useful for avoiding babies scratching their delicate faces. Remember, you do not have to spend loads of cash on organizing the layette. You can get affordable but decent quality items, rather than going for the designer label. New babies can be expensive, so save money wherever you can. Enjoy preparing your layette for your new arrival. Do not fret if you have forgotten anything you will have plenty of visitors when your baby arrives home to nip to the stores for you.
