Coming by car: This is probably the least attractive in view of the fact that you cant drive around Venice and that you will have to pay a fair amount to park your wheels during your Venice vacations. If you do want to drive, using a rented car is better. Parking, as I mentioned, is expensive in Venice. But it is much cheaper if you park your car in Mestre and take a train to Venice. The locals leave every five to ten minutes and the parking costs you a fraction of what it would in Venice. If you choose to come to Venice, Italy by train, remember to continue till the last stop, Santa Lucia. The great thing about Santa Lucia is the fact that is situated right on the Grand Canal and just outside the railway station you will be able to get the Vaporetto or the water buses. Be careful not to get off at Mestre. If you are flying down to Venice for a Venice Vacation, you will be landing at Marco Polo airport where all the scheduled carriers land. The airport is about 13 kilometers from Venice and is connected by buses, shuttles and private taxis, naturally enough, the rates rise in the same sequence. Parco polo is well connected and has flights from just about anyplace you can name. You can search online or talk to your travel agent to locate cheap flights to Venice, Italy. As I said earlier, you could also come to Venice by a cruise ship for your Venice vacations. They dock at the Port of Venice. You will get a complimentary shuttle boat from the cruise ship to Piazza San Marco. A unique facet of Venice is its car free nature. It may take you some time to get used to walking anywhere without worrying about being run over. If you do spend some time in the city, remember that the rest of the world is not so safe. A romantic way to travel in Venice is using the Gondola, but this can be expensive, typically costing 75 Euros or more for an hour. Do be sure that you know what you will be charged and do not hesitate to bargain. There are share gondolas as well where you pay a lot less but these are more for travel rather than for romance. Fortunately, Venice is also a city that you can see on foot. If you have the time to spend and really want to soak in the city during your Venice vacations, this is the option we recommend.
