However, for some people, iron rich foods can be detrimental. For example, if a person has Hemochromatosis, eating iron rich foods can cause more harm than good. If you start to experience any of the above symptoms and you feel that iron may be possibly to blame, you should consult your doctor immediately. If excess iron is found in time, treatments can be successful. It is important to note that infants who rely on formula and/or breast milk may require additional iron into their diet. You should not administer the extra iron to your child unless you have received consent or a prescription to do so by the primary pediatrician. Iron can be potentially hazardous for infants, so extreme caution should be used in these cases.
