Choosing The Ideal Boat For Duck Hunting
48761 Recreation & Sports > Hunting Oct 12, 2007 wingsofsuccess Choosing The Ideal Boat For Duck Hunting While technology has changed and improved exponentially in recent decades, the duck boat remains the same. There have been slight improvements; many accessories are now available, but it's basic function remains. The most important thing when purchasing a boat for duck hunting is how it will meet your specific needs. There are a lot of boats to choose from, but all are aimed at specific hunting conditions, so making a choice isn't as hard as it may at first seem. Before checking out boats, the only thing a hunter really needs to know is where he'll be hunting. If hunting in small and shallow waters, a small, lightweight, double-pointed boat is the right choice for you. It enables the hunter to maneuver around obstacles common in these areas. These boats are also great for hauling because they are so lightweight. However, if you're planning to hunt in different types of terrain, this probably isn't the right boat, as is it very unstable and impractical for larger bodies of water. For hunters hunting in flooded timber areas a duck boat with a mud motor is the best choice. A Jon boat is often aluminum or wood and flat-bottomed and they're designed specifically for hunting or fishing. They usually have one to three seats, an outboard motor mount, and are relatively inexpensive. These boats are also easy to maintain and have a lot of usable space for equipment. Many hunters find the Jon boat ideal for lakes and rivers with weed patches and shallow backwaters. Another thing to consider when purchasing a duck boat will be how many people will be using it at once. Not only will there need to be enough room for hunters, but room will also be necessary for each hunter's equipment, and if you're using a dog, even more space will be required. Two hunters plus gear generally requires about a sixteen foot minimum length, any more people and the length should increase. Despite all the different types of hunting boats on the market, a hunter can easily make his decision based upon his needs. Depending upon what type of terrain it will be used in, the number or people, dogs, and gear that will be using it, the right boat for your needs will be simple to find. And as always when hunting, practicing utmost safety is a necessity; a safe hunting trip is a happy hunting trip. Abhishek is a long-time Hunting addict!
